Enchanted Rock
Who wouldn’t want to see the nation’s second largest granite dome? Just remember to bring your hiking shoes. A half-mile jaunt to the top of the hill in which it resides, Enchanted Rock is an amazing place to visit. Also, enjoy unique rock formations and do some birding at this Fredericksburg attraction. There are more than 10 miles of hiking trails to take advantage of, and rock climbing if you are into that (check in at park headquarters first). Bring food for a nice little picnic before you depart.
Hamilton Pool Preserve
Swim in green, clear waters, sit on a large rock under a waterfall, and go on a hike in this ode to nature located in Dripping Springs, which offers many nearby options for lodging. The preserve is home to many birds, including the Golden-Cheeked Warbler. Guided tours are available October through April on Saturdays at 10 a.m. Hamilton Pool Preserve is a popular destination, so you must make reservations well ahead of time.
Andy’s River Toobs
It’s so simple, yet so perfect. Andy’s River Toobs offers “toobs” for you, your dog, and even your cooler to float along the Guadalupe River. There are two main float trips around the “Horseshoe.” Andy’s River Toobs offers a shuttle and free parking, just bring your bathing suit and some refreshments, or enjoy lunch at Jay & Diane’s Horseshoe Grill.
Schlitterbahn Water Park New Braunfels
This popular water park is actually two water parks: the Schlitterbahn Water Park and The Resort at Schlitterbahn. Hop on a black tube at the Schlitterbahn Water Park, which uses Comal River water. The Boogie Bahn Surfing Ride, the Skycoaster, and the Master Blaster Uphill Water Coaster are a few of the big attractions sure to thrill any water enthusiast on a hot day.
Dell Diamond
While you are here, take in a minor league ballgame. Dell Diamond is home to the Round Rock Express of the Pacific Coast League. Round Rock is the Triple-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers. Experience fun such as the crack of the bat, the smell of hot dogs, and the awesome promotional events (Nolan Ryan Bobblehead Night, and Super Hero Night among them.) It’s time to take your children out to the ballgame and maybe see a future Major League Baseball star.
Austin Zoo
It’s worth checking out the rescued and rehabilitated animals, as well as the native Texas wildlife at the Austin Zoo, which boasts more than 350 animals. It’s a unique zoo experience with the rescued animals taking center stage.
