Letters to Santa: Cookies & a Movie @ the Enzian

I won't lie, I love the holiday season.

I wait all year for it to roll around and when it does, we dive into it with happy hearts.

Roo is four this year and I love that she is aware of what is going on and can share my happiness with me about the holiday season (she's already written five letters to Santa Claus!).

The Enzian Theatre is hosting some special events this month, one of them being their Letters to Santa: Cookies and a Movie.

On December 4th at 1pm (doors open at noon), the Enzian will show Mr. Magoo's A Christmas Carol (the film is less than 60 minutes). The cost for this event is $5 for kids 12 and under, adults are $8 and Enzian members can gain admittance for $7.50.

Before the movie there will be fun, family-friendly events to participate in, including a free letter writing kit to write a letter to Santa Claus.  A special themed menu is planning with cookies and hot chocolate.

Review: Disney's Prep & Landing

You know I love the holidays. I've said it enough times that I'm sure you are sick of it.

But did you know I love love love holiday movies?

I'm sure you did, huh?

One of the favorites at our house this time of year is Disney's Prep & Landing.

We saw this one for the first time last year and Roo has asked for it ever since.

Prep & Landing tells the story of how elves ensure that the homes Santa is about to visit are all ready for the big guy. Also in the story is a 227 year old Elf named Wayne who is passed up for a promotion as head of the Naughty List. Disgruntled at being passed up, Wayne gets himself into a pickle while visiting a house. Now Wayne and his partner, Lanny must come up with a plan to save Christmas.

Here's a trailer for the DVD:

It's a great movie to share with your kiddos and Roo recommends it to all of her friends.

Prep & Landing is on sale now!

I received a copy of Prep & Landing for this review. All opinions are 100% my own. Please see my full disclosure policy for more information.

Too Many Damn Toys

It's something I utter every time I walk into the girls' room: YOU HAVE TOO MANY TOYS!

I only add the 'damn' part if they are not in the room.

But it's so true.

My girls have been very blessed when it comes to being spoiled by their parents and their grandparents (these children do not want for much) and the evidence is scattered all over their floor.

I am constantly stepping on tiny sharp Barbie shoes or Hot Wheelz cars.

And I will admit, I try to sneak out a few toys here and there to throw away (all those happy meal toys or broken ones) but they watch me like hawks and rarely am I alone to really do some damage.

With Christmas coming (and those grandparents that love to spoil them), I am having a physical pain in my gut. The thought of bringing in more toys is making me ill.

I've tried to do the "give toys to those that don't have toys" spiel before and it only warranted me a handful of baby toys and a coloring book.

Roo deems all of her toys valuable and Turtle just follows me and takes back anything I take out.

It would bring me great pleasure to sweep through there and clean out all the toys hidden under the beds or shoved into the back of the closets but planning that attack is like planning a five hour trip in the car to Grandma's... painful.

I've declared to all that will listen (and so far, only one aunt has listened) that Christmas toys must be limited to puzzles, books or outdoor toys but who knows if that rule will be followed.

All I can do is sit here and hope that it won't be as bad as the past few years... and sneak into their room whenever I can to toss out the crap.

Happy Holidays!

Black Friday

I only went shopping on Black Friday once.

I was six months pregnant and my friend insisted that I go with to keep her company.

And you know what, it wasn't as crazy as I imaged it would be.

I had always watched the news and seen the crazy people rushing in a store as soon as the doors opened.

We avoided that but did wait three hours in one line to buy some crap that really wasn't that good of a deal.

But at least I had the experience.

And yes, every year on Thanksgiving when I drool over that mountainous pile of advertisements I think about going.

But it only lasts a minute before I think about the over-crowding, the pushing, the lines... Egh.

I would rather pay an extra ten dollars  for a television than deal with that.

Wouldn't you?

Crazy Town

It really has been a crazy town here in our household lately.

With everything going on, I feel like I'm out of breath constantly.

I've got a new class to deal with, the holidays to plan and celebrate, a surgery to contemplate, my mother is coming into town to help with that, I've got anxiety plaguing me and on top of that, Turtle has a runny nose.

I threw that last one in for good measure.

Didn't want this rant to be all about me, ya' know?

But honestly, it's very challenging to be dealing with all of this.

All I want to do is run and hide at the playground with my girls and forget that I have so much to do. It would nice to fein ignorance and focus on having fun and enjoying the holidays.

But I can't.

I'm an adult with responsibilities.

I have a Masters program to conquer.

I have a surgery to kick ass in.

I have a Mama coming in town to coddle me.

I'm a strong enough person to deal with it all, I am just weak enough to want to complain about it for a minute.

MyBlogSpark: Chex Mix Review & Giveaway

Okay, it's confession time... I've never had Chex mix.

There, I said it.

But I've always been curious.

I recently had the chance to host a Chex mix "party" where I invited family members over and we holed ourselves up in the kitchen and made a mess.

And we ate way too much.

Seriously, way too much.

We started out with the goal of making the Caramel-Chocolate Drizzles and the PB and Chocolate Blast mixes.

We had gathered all our ingredients and started out with #1 on the recipe card.

Then we learned that microwaving white vanilla chips is not all that easy.

It is actually a difficult task.

So we scrapped microwaving things and just hit the stove with the double boiler.

Then somehow we canned making two recipes and merged the two into one.

We made a chocolate, peanut butter, caramel and pb chip Chex mix.

It was heaven.

Everyone was able to take some home and we spent the entire weekend munching on Chex mix.

And I am so glad I've tried Chex mix. It is guaranteed to be on the table at every holiday gathering this season.

Want to make some yummy Chex mix of your own?

I've got a giveaway pack to share with one of you.

The winner will receive:

  • 2 boxes of Chex cereal to create Chex Party Mix recipes
  • 5 featured Chex Party Mix recipes
  • 10 takeout containers so your guests can take their Chex Party Mix to-go
  • $20 gift card to purchase recipe ingredients and decorating supplies
All I need you to do is tell me how you make your Chex mix and if you've never tried it what kind would you make?

Giveaway ends on December 1st at 12 AM EST.

Extra entries can be earned by tweeting out this giveaway, just make sure you @NYTMBlog and add a comment here with your tweet link.

Good Luck!

The Chex Party Mix-Change product, information, and giveaway have been provided by Chex through MyBlogSpark. All opinions in this post are 100% my own. Please see my full disclosure policy for more information.

Eden Fantasys

You know I love Eden Fantasys.

Now there's even more reason to love them.

They are not just sex toys, I promise you.

Now they have cosmetics, bath and body products and CLOTHING.

My favorite online shopping purchase.

The clothing consists of naughty lingerie, sexy costume and club wear.

I have my eye on this dress for New Years Eve.

Hot, huh?

It is perfection for a sizzling night out on the town.

And it's only $34.99

Eden Fantasys really has quite a selection to choose from from a tame little black dress to an all out skimpy dress with a slit to your thigh.

There is also cute tops and bottoms to mix up your wardrobe and a great selection of sexy things to slip on underneath those clothes.

The new body collection includes shower gels, shaving creams and even cosemetics.

Now you can buy your lingerie, a great club outfit and the makeup to make you look your best.

Eden Fantasys is really stepping up their game and becoming a one-stop shop for all things sexy. I am very impressed with them and if they ever added shoes to their website, I wouldn't go any further.

Review: Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Space Adventure

Turtle is becoming more aware of the television.

She is also becoming quite addicted to Mickey Mouse.

Put those two together and you get a girlie that is super happy when Mickey Mouse Clubhouse comes on the television.

The latest from Disney and Mickey Mouse is Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Space Adventure.

Mickey Mouse is Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Space Adventure is a full-length adventure with the Clubhouse Rocket. In space, Mickey and friends explore the moon, meet new alien friends and Goofy discovers the Milky-Way.

Included on the DVD is also a never before seen episode and the all-new Discovery mode which allows your children to watch and play games in an all-new way!

Both Turtle and Roo loved this DVD. Mickey Mouse and friends is always a hit in our household and I adore that they pack in as much learning as they can with each episodes.

Oh joy, I get to have surgery.

Yesterday I went to the surgeon and got the order that surgery is on my schedule this month.

The funny thing is that I knew it was coming, it was what I wanted to fix my problem, I was going to push for it.

But hearing it come out of the doctor's mouth sent a chill through me.

Watching them pencil me in for surgery, literally, threw me through a loop.

It's all too real all of a sudden.

And I don't know if I am prepared.

Disney's Pixie Hollow Games

I'm sure you've seen the teaser trailers on the Disney Channel lately about the Pixie Hollow Games, well guess what... They are on this Saturday!

And Roo is so excited that she dances around the living room when she sees the commercial and I tell her that Saturday is only a few days away.

The Pixie Hollow Games premiere on Saturday, November 19th at 7 pm EST on the Disney Channel.

In the all-new adventure, Tinker Bell and her friends prepare and participate in the legendary Pixie Hollow games, which is a "tournament-style, sporting event where  all of the different fairy guilds compete in daring races and athletic challenges to see who will be names champion of the Games."

Newcomer, Chloe is a competitor who does not want to lose and she teams up with Rosetta and together they work to break the garden fairies' streak of bad luck.

To learn more about the Disney Fairies you can visit their website and make sure you tune in this Saturday to watch the Pixie Hollow Games.

I was not compensated for this post. I am posting this information out of the goodness of my heart and my daughter's love for all things Tink. All opinions in this post are 100% my own. Please see my full disclosure policy for more information.

3rd Annual Drive-Through Food Drive

ORLANDO, Fla. – NOVEMBER 8, 2011 – With Thanksgiving just around the corner, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey is again collecting food to help stock Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida (SHFBCF)’s pantry shelves.  During this difficult economy and as the holidays approach, the agency’s need for food donations is increasing.

For one day only, Thursday, November 17 between 7-9 a.m., Ringling Bros. is offering Central Florida consumers the opportunity to energize their community and donate non-perishable, unexpired food items in exchange for ticket vouchers to DRAGONS, a once in a millennium event that honors The Year of the Dragon. A donation of 10 food items entitles each consumer to one ticket voucher, with a limit of four vouchers (40 food items donated) per household. Vouchers can be redeemed at the Amway Center box office for the Thursday, January 12, 7:30 p.m. opening night performance.  Ticket vouchers are available to those who donate on a first-come, first-serve basis while supplies last.  Free ticket vouchers apply to opening night, promenade level only.

Ringling Bros. and SHFBCF are making it easy with drive-through service! No need to find a parking space or carry heavy grocery bags – consumers can even stay in their PJ’s! They can simply drive to the Blue Lot at the Amway Center (located off Hughey Ave, parallel to I-4, just past Hughey and Church), stay in their cars, and volunteers will meet them and exchange ticket vouchers for donations, right through car windows.

Consumers can return to the Amway Center box office between Nov. 25 and January 12 to redeem vouchers for tickets. The Amway Center box office is located on Church Street.  Short-term (15 minutes) parking is available in front of the box office on Church Street except during events.  The Amway Center box office does not take ticket orders over the phone.  Operating hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and three (3) hours prior to any event.

Last year’s food drive generated elephant-sized results. In only two hours, Ringling Bros. and SHFBCF collected 3,839 pounds of food -- equating to approximately 2,600 meals to feed the needy in Central Florida. Hundreds of Central Floridians participated -- from dads in gym shorts to moms in PJs to young professionals on their way to work.  “It is the fastest ‘food-raiser’ we do and we look forward to repeating our success this year,” said Sasha Hausman, Development Manager for the food bank.

SHFBCF secures and distributes food and grocery products to approximately 500 agencies that feed the hungry throughout Central Florida.  SHFBCF accepts nonperishable food donations including boxed cereal, stuffing, canned meat, fruit, cranberry sauce, gravy and vegetables.  The agency’s most needed items include nonfat dry milk, peanut butter, baby food, and canned tuna, meat, vegetables and fruit.

Circus performers from the farthest reaches of the earth have assembled for Ringling Bros. Presents DRAGONS to showcase their astounding acts of bravery and astonishing athleticism. Ringling Bros. Ringmaster Johnathan Lee Iverson presides over this fantastical celebratory tournament of circus champions that brings together mystic dragon lore with authentic circus feats. DRAGONS is a never-before-seen blend of renowned spiritual and real life legends and is coming January 12-16 to the Amway Center in Orlando.

Tickets are $85 (Circus Celebrity), $65 (Front Row), $40 (VIP), $25, $20 and $15.Ticketmaster service charges and facility fees not included.  All seats are reserved, and tickets go on sale November 25 at 10:00 a.m. Tickets are available at or, at any Ticketmaster outlet, by calling 800-745-3000, or at the Amway Center box office (phone: 407-440-7900). For group ticket sales and information, call 866-248-8740. "

I'm a (closeted) Lazy Girl

I have to confess.... I am sorta a lazy gal.

Meaning that if I don't have a to-do list, or I don't have any expectations, I can get really lazy and then things start falling by the wayside and before you know it I have dishes piled up, laundry coming out of the basket and my kids are watching too much tv.

It's just a fact of my life.

Therefore it's best if I have a firm grip on my life and keep myself busy.

This means that I need to write down things I need to get done, this means I need to be going non-stop and that I stay on top of my game.

Odd, I know.

I never really thought of myself as an all-or-nothing person, but apparently I am.

A year back I started slacking on my blog and then I started planning less and less activities for my kids to do.

It's not that I ignored my blog or my children for that matter (never, for the record... never.) I just slacked a bit.

Now that I'm back in school and we have a set schedule for Roo's school, it seems like all I do is go go go go go go go...

And I like it.

I seem to be more productive.

I have even taken on more tasks and I don't mind.

Sure, I have my moments where I flip the F out about how much is on my plate.

But having so much to do helps me manage my panic/anxiety attacks (of course, it brings them on sometimes... I'm still trying to find a healthy balance), it doesn't leave me much time to contemplate the downfalls in my life or be miserable about it.

I'm definitely not saying anything is perfect, but I'm working on it.

And I'm doing everything I can to keep that lazy girl at bay, I just don't have time for her drama.

NYTM Cooks: Sweet Treats

My latest obsession is Pinterest.

I could spend hours (and I have) on that website.

I ran across a picture a few weeks back about frozen yogurt strawberries and decided this morning I decided I was going to put some together for the family.

Now, I didn't read the directions about how to do it (I'm lazy like that) and decided that I would just wing it.

I bought some vanilla yogurt and strawberries.

I sliced the treetops off of the strawberries.

Then dipped them in yogurt.

Now, this is the tricky part. Yogurt doesn't have the best... coating abilities. I found the best way to get the whole strawberry coated is to dunk it in and swirl in a circular motion.

After that, I plopped them on a tray with a baking mat and stuck them in the deep freezer.

Easy peasy.

And you know what, they were YUMMY.

I'm not that big of a strawberry or a yogurt fan, but put them together and freeze them: Delicious.

The NeverEnding Sick Days

The past two weeks has truly been hell on us.

It all started when Roo came home from trick-or-treaing with a fever.

Then came the strep throat diagnosis.

And Turtle popped up with a 104.3 fever (scary!) and then came the barking coughs that made me cringe and the runny noses that DID. NOT. STOP.

Oh, it was miserable.

Especially because when the girls are sick, they are a mixture of amped up energy and cranky. You would never know they are sick until they stop running around like crazy people and they look up at you with red eyes, green snot rolling down their pink cheeks and they start to frown.

Then it's all downhill from there.

Which makes Mama cranky.

And then, then (!) I got sick.

And then my husband got sick.

I won't lie, when I get sick... I get whinny (annoying, yes I know). I hate stuffy noses because I feel like an ogre with my mouth hanging open, then my lips get dry and I can't taste my food and then I can't sleep because I can't breathe and then I just get nasty.

And mean.

It's not a pretty sight, trust me on this one.

At least my husband doesn't complain, he just sucks it up.

It's been a solid two weeks of someone in this house being sick so I'm more than ready for a healthy, happy  family!

Especially because the weather this weekend is going to be beautiful.

And I can't take one more day of being cooped up in this house.

Dear Daughters: Sickie Poo

These past two weeks have kinda sucked.

Actually, this whole month has sucked.

Why, you ask?

Because we've spent too many hours in the past month at the doctor's, at the urgent care center, worrying about fevers, medicines, being grumpy and eating too much candy.

Oh wait, that last one was me.

Both of you experienced HIGH fevers last week and Turtle, yours is back with a vengeance right now as I type this and I hate that you are miserable.

Roo, you've had a persistent cough that is annoying and having it means you have to have your nebulizier, which you desperately hate, and in turn makes you unhappy.

You tell me this every time I bring out the machine, "Mama, this makes me unhappy" you say.

And I hate making you unhappy, but I'm only doing it to help you, not torture you.

I promise.

When you two aren't being sick, you're being crazy, beautiful girls that drive me to exhaustion at the end of every day.

But I love it.

I love how much energy you have and how much you love life.

Since it's (FINALLY) cooling down, we are lots of time outside having picnics, chasing chickens and digging in the riding rings. We had a campfire the other night with Daddy and you both were so happy to sit in lawn chairs and stay up late.

You also adore the charcoal we made that night and delight in turning the driveway black with your artistic talent.

I am so proud of both of you and everything you do... truly.

You are Mama's best accomplishments and always will be.

Love you bunches.

Better'N Eggs is Taking a Stand Against Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 Diabetes has affected my life for years. My mother was diagnosed when I was younger and since the day she told me about it (I can still remember the moment!), I’ve been super-aware of the disease.

I remember chasing her around asking if she had taken her shot, had she had enough to eat, did she need a snack or had she eaten too much when she shouldn’t have?

I was like a little Diabetes police following her everywhere.

I knew the signs when her blood sugar was low (she got super cranky) and when it was too high (she got silly, like really silly).

The thing was that I knew what could happen if you didn’t take care of yourself and I didn’t want that for my Mom.

I wanted (and still do) her to live a healthy life.

She manages her diabetes quite well now and has a pump that helps deliver insulin to her body.

While it’s no longer at the forefront of my everyday life, it’s there in the back of my mind and I always worry about it.

And I adore that products like Better’N Eggs.

A fat-free, low-calorie, cholesterol-free alternative to the traditional egg.

They work well in recipes.

Some recommended recipes include the smoother starter, southwest egg white quesdillas and bacon cheddar mini egg cups.

Better’N Eggs is pasteurized fresh egg white in an easy-to-pour container and only has 25 calories per serving.

Better’N Eggs have put together the  Better’n Eggs Fit2Fight Diabetes campaign to help fight diabetes.

And just in time because November is National Diabetes Awareness Month!

The purpose of the campaign is to take a stand against diabetes, which affects 28.5 million adults and children.

There will be a #BetterNEggs Twitter Party with Bob Greene on 11/6 from 8-10EST. More information about the party can be found at:

Join the fight today and take a stand against diabetes.

Disney DVD: Cars 2 Review

The original Cars movie has always been a favorite in our household (yes, even before we had kids) so when the sequel, Cars 2, came out we were all excited.

Now Cars 2 is out on DVD and Roo is really excited.

"I can keep it?" She asked with a hop and a skip.

Needless to say, it's been on repeat since we got it on Monday.

And I don't mind. Cars 2 is just as good as the first and Mater (Larry the Cable Guy!) is funny! The only thing I miss from the first Cars is the music, the music in the first is much better. But overall, it's still great.

From the press release:

"CARS 2 - Disney•Pixar’s fast-action summer hit “Cars 2” comes home on Blu-ray Combo Pack, Blu-ray 3D, Movie Download and DVD -- November 1, 2011. Celebrating the 25th anniversary of Pixar Animation Studios, the high octane in-home release invites families and fans of all ages to come along on a journey around the world with the #1 animated film of the year and introduces an exclusive all-new animated short “Air Mater,” featuring the fan favorite character spinning his tales in an exciting adventure high above Radiator Springs. The must-own animated release also includes fascinating commentary from award-winning director John Lasseter and “Hawaiian Vacation,” the delightful animated short that accompanied the film in theatres.

The immersive “Cars 2” bonus features include an one-of-a-kind interactive “World Tour” map that takes viewers through nine different locations, including those featured in the film and more.
