She's Too Young, Damnit!

Roo has a little bit of a belly on her and she's also longer in the mid-section (long torso?) so I normally buy her bigger shirts (plus there is an advantage to she can wear them longer).

I decided that I would start buying her size 5 shirts and the last time I went shopping I had to venture into the girls section.

And I have to say, I was shocked.

Only because clothing in size 5 is so much... older than the toddler section.

Everything is so... bright. So bold.... so sassy.

The thought of my little girl wearing shirts that say, "All About Me" and "Diva" or "HOT" written across her butt! It gives me the chills.

She's not ready for this.

She's a little girl. She should still be wearing cute stripped shirts with lollipops on them!

I couldn't bring myself to buy anything... so I ran home and ordered plain shirts online for her.

And just thinking about going back to the store and being surrounded by short, pleaded skirts and tube tops (okay, not tube tops but you get me here) freaks me out.

She's my sweetheart, my baby, my firstborn, I can't handle her growing up so fast.

And I know for a fact I can't handle the clothing that comes with growing up.

And if I had a problem with the clothes that are to come, imagine her father.

Eck!

Seriously, isn't it crazy what they have for little girls to wear?

There are times I am so relieved to all boys. This is one of them. I look at the little girls section and I am shocked at how adult the clothes seem.

I have a boy but I get what you're saying. I recently went into a store and was actually offended by the clothing Kmart had for little boys. He's just barely 7 and I would never put him in a shirt with guns and skulls on it that said "Mafia Hit Man Club" or "Fight gear". I'm not that old and don't offend that easily but I was so offended that I actually wrote Kmart a letter. It wasn't even like they only had a little - every thing they had was like that. It went unanswered and I got no response!

I really struggle finding cute, not obnoxious clothes for both my kids. The Children's Place was my safety zone, but even their clothes are getting a little ridiculous. I'm really not happy to have to pay Gymboree or Janie and Jack prices to get clothes that are appropriate for my kids (and I'm not ridiculous about it, I mean Katie is wearing a self-rescuing princess shirt today).

One thing I hate is that the OshKosh B'Gosh line only goes up to 5T at Target. They have the most appropriate clothing. Sigh.

Good Luck! For years I have said that the clothes are "so old" for young girls. I can remember seeing mary kate and ashley olsens clothing line for the first time and saying what the heck!

On a side note, I have taken th plunge and am going to try this blog thing! I am doing it more to connect to the blogs I follow and to document stuff in B's life. I hope you will check it out, just remember it is new and is a work in progress!

I'm there with my 5yo too. Carters still has cute stuff for that age, so does Lands End. Rest of the time I snag what I can when I find it! Not easy though!
