Learning to Sew

I told you a few weeks back that I was trying to pick up sewing as a hobby.

And I have to be honest with you, I haven't gotten very far.

It has a lot to do with time, two babes to take care of, a husband to feed, a house to clean, a dog to feed, miles to run, errands to do, etc. etc... I could go on and on about the things I have to do on a daily basis (notice most of them involve feeding people?).

And at the end of the day, I'm done.

I have no energy to sit down at the sewing machine and figure this whole thing out.

But deep inside I really want to do this.

I really want to make clothing for my girls, sew up awesome (does anyone still use awesome out there?) outfits for my husband's photo shoots, make cute burp cloths for friends and be that Mom.

You know which one I'm talking about.

The amazingly talented Mom who sews cute accessories to hand out to all her friends. The Mom that can sewing quilts for new babies and make matching shirts for sisters.

I want to be her!

And I'll never get anywhere unless I actually do it.

If you have any tips, suggestions, website I need to visit, please leave me a comment and tell me what I need to do to get this done.

And wish me luck.

I started back into sewing a few years ago. I started with pajama pants. I got an easy pattern from walmart and went to town.

It's a lot of fun yet I don't do it as often now.

Not sure about web sites, but maybe just pick up an easy patter at Walmart or Jo Ann's and set aside some time to try it out.

looking forward to seeing how it turns out!

I must admit that I am that mom/ Friend. I started sewing when I was little bitty, I was about 6 or 7. But I started with easy little purses and pj pants. a great place to look for easy tutorials is online I really like Craftster.org and youtube. I did find a simple pillow case dress tutorial that would be a good starter project. http://www.aroomsomewhere.net/2007/07/pillowcase-dress-tutorial.html

Yes, I use the word "awesome" all the time. LOL! I thought I wanted to learn how to sew too since my mom is a whiz at it (used to make my clothing, quilts, doll clothes, curtains, bridesmaid gowns, etc.). She was thrilled, bought me a sewing machine and we made a few aprons together. She showed me how to follow a pattern, what to do, etc.

Since then (over 2 years ago), I have not used it once. I still think it would be great to be creative and sew stuff, just do not have the time.

I've always wanted to learn to sew too. My friend even has a machine she said I could have, but like you, I also lack the time. I guess I'll learn eventually and make my grandbabies cute little clothes. :)
