Countdown to Va-cay

We're gearing up for Roo's first plane ride this week and the panic is starting to hit me. And my lists are not calming me, at all!

Do I take the car seat on the plane? Can I take snacks on board? Are they going to have to unwrap all of Roo's lollipops? Will the pressure of the cabin irritate her ears?

Thank goodness for google. I've been reading up a storm about everything I can find when it comes to toddlers and flying.

But deep down, I'm still worried she's going to freak out and make the whole thing as uncomfortable as possible. Plus, it does not help that I. Hate. Flying.

Hate. Hate. Hate it.

I'm praying I'll be so distracted by taking care of Roo and making sure she's okay, that I can avoid air sickness.

Any tips, advice, suggestion you could give me will greatly calm my nerves.

She will be fine. Make sure she has her pacifier and a sippy cup. It may have to be empty, but the flight attendants should have some kind of juice. The sucking will help pop her ears. If you give her a decongestant the night before, it will help too. The sound of the plan ALWAYS put my boys to sleep. You don't freak out, cause you know she will feel that. You will be great!

You can bring snacks! I don't think they'll bother to unwrap lollipops!haha. Maybe buy her her very own little snack tote(aka lunchbox) to make it special? Bring her sippy cup & they will give you water or juice to fill it!

I recommend bringing her her very own carry-on full of stuff! You'll want to pull out all of the stops if she starts crying! Anytime I've traveled with kiddos in tow, we bring the big guns!

Goodluck! Have a great vacay!

Good luck on flying. I haven't flown with my daughter yet. She's almost 2.

I fly with Miles about every 3 months. So far, he's always been great. I still nurse though... so that helps on take off and landing. Definitely be prepared to have something for her to drink during those times. The ear popping sucks for LOs. Snacks, activities - crayons, books. Good luck! Hopefully you'll have hubby... M and I always fly just us. We're actually coming to Florida for 2 weeks in 15 days!

You will be fine, even if its not fine, just remember you will never see those people again. We bring a travel dvd player...its a life saver, I am flying w/ my 2 and 4 y/o in August...not looking forward to that either.

I think because of Roo's age, you're required to have her own seat and her car seat in that seat. *THINK* is the operative word there! But you can take her in her stroller and just get her stroller checked at the gate. And you can take things that haven't been opened on board too.

No you dont have to have a carseat in the seat. try to calm as best yuou can. i am the biggest whimp with flying and having the kids with me distracts me a lot. i was also nervous about my daughter's ears when I flew she wasnt even 1 yet. she was FINE.

From my own dim memory of traveling with our then almost 1 year old last summer, we had no problem with sippy cups, food, etc. You just have to declare what you have and unpack it all so they can see it. And that may just be for jarred baby food. Regular snacks are probably fine.
I'm nervous about flying with her as a toddler this summer. I think DVDs on daddy's laptop may be our best friend...
MCO has those separate lines now for traveling with children and it takes alot of the pressure off when you're going through security. Don't have to worry about some business traveler gettng antsy behind you while you wrestle with a stroller. Maybe leave some extra time for breaking everything down and putting it all back together.
Good luck!

I took my daughter on her first plane ride when she was about 2 1/2. It was 5 hours (to Florida : ) ) and I was so worried. She cried... when we landed & it was time to get off the plane. Otherwise she LOVED IT!!!! We took a red-eye in hopes she would sleep the whole time, but instead was wide awake with amazement. She played, read books & had a great time. My advice would be to make her think it's a fun adventure. If you're nervous or anxious she'll feed on that. Just play it up about how excited you are. Good luck. Can't wait to hear about it!!!!

You will be fine! I have traveled TONS with my kids!
I like to hit the local $1 store and have surprise toys to whip out when needed!
Another tip......put everything in zip lock bags. One for diapers and wipes. One for snacks, one for clothes...you get it. It makes it easier to pull out what you need!
