Excuse me while I have a pity party.
Just when I thought the whole weaning thing was getting better, I'm hit smack in the chest with (excuse me fellas, there's no other way to say it) engorged breasts!
It feels as horrible as it sounds.
I was so happy two days ago when I woke up and my boobs resembled something of normalcy. There was no pain, there was no emotional breakdowns, nada.
This is what I get for thinking that I was doing a great job.
Breasts that are on FIRE!
The slightest brush of fabric, the accidental kick (Roo tends to kick me while she sleeps), a grope from the hubby... it's all painful.
The only thing that I can imagine would've caused this (besides my cockiness) was Roo's tears. Yesterday she was in a bad mood because her eye-teeth are coming in and that had her in a frustrated mood.
Leaving Mommy in a frustrated mood.

You're going to feel GREAT when all the madness is over. You're doing a good job & with boobs that feel like overworked punching bags, you deserve a pity party. Good luck to you!!!!
Pitty party excused.. now how about some help (hopefully). Having breast fed all four of my little bra..I mean darlings, I'm well versed in the care and treatment of sore weaning boobies.
Now this is gonna sound odd at the very least.. but go out and buy some cabbage. Standard good old white/regular cabbage.. nothing purple TRUST ME! Put it in the fridge for a while so it gets nice and cold. Then take it off by the whole leaf. You'll notice it's a cup.. you guessed it.. put that puppy on the boob. I know it sounds gross and very "old wives tale"-ish BUT you'll be so glad you're packing the cabbage in the bra.
It seems that cabbage has some special magic in it that helps soothe the boob. My mom (who breast fed all 3 of us) gave me this advice. I resisted, well cuz it sounds icky. But it worked.
And yes Roo's tears can trigger the mamary overload. Even just hugging the little sweetie can send them into blow up mode. If it gets really bad you can also alternate a nice warm (wet) towel that has been soaked in chamomile tea with annother yucky idea but heck at least it's all natural.. a bag of frozen peas! On a good day I'm a 38 DD (have been even in my younger and thinner days) so you can imagine how the girls faired with these days.. I recall spending hours with them out of the sling..one in a tea soaked towel the other smothered in peas! I feel for ya.. good luck
Today is the perfect day to let it all out. Just get it out. Then remember it will all get better, and it'll all be worth it.
Now I'm wondering how my bloggy friend, DiPaola Momma, figured out that whole cabbage thing cause that's just not something you go and do for no reason I would think. :)
It is ok to have a pity party! You deserve it! You can do it, you are doing great!
Maybe some ice packs?
Pity Party warrented, IMO!
I've heard of the cabbage trick - my sister-in-law used that when my neice was born...
The joys of being a woman.. & a mommy... right?
ok, your pity part is totally deserved. i remember this feeling. 3 days after weaning i was brushing my teeth and noah was crying in his jumper chair. my boobs "exploded." i just whipped off the shirt and let it run into the sink. oh the feeling of release. is that TMI or what?
Ouch. I don't miss breastfeeding troubles. Engorged breasts and cracked nipples are just the worst!
Try drinking peppermint tea, it slightly slows down milk production and it helps in case of engorgement. They always told me to try cabbage leaves, but that's just gross.
What a terrible thing! I hope you feel better soon! I can imagine how painful it is!
My boobs are big to begin with. Every month, my parents take our son for about a 18-24 hr time period. Talk about wanting to stab myself in the eye. The only thing I have found comfort is to put a heating pad on them.
Can't catch a friggen break can ya? I've heard the cabbage deal-e-o works well. I say give'r a go.
Hopefully the hard part(s) will be over soon.
P.S. My hubby almost lost both of his hands when he tried to grope my engorged breasts. Men just have no clue on the subject.
Oh this sounds so undelightful! Since we are all being open about our boobies here... ;) I have a weird skin irritation and have had some bad bra itching rash moments. It is the closest I can do to understand and I am sure yours is much worse :( The joys of motherhood I guess!
So very very glad to be of any help! Breast feeding was really one of the most wonderful times in my life. It was even worth the sagging I suffer with now. I figure I can always have the girls "refurbished" anyway:-)
Excuse me cuz I'm gonna go all mushy on ya, forgive kay?
I never felt more a woman or stronger than when I nourished my babies from my own body. It connected me to them in a way that is beyond discription. I see them now and know that I gave them the start that no one else could. It's said that the first steps your child takes are their first steps away from you. But only a mom who has weaned a child knows that those steps start with the first day you have to tell them they can't breast feed anymore.
Let yourself feel that loss sweetie. You are NOT being silly or overly emotional AT ALL! My youngest is 29 months old now and has been off the boob for sometime. I still get sad when I see women breast feeding. It's like seeing a picture of someone you lost.
Nuf with the sap! Hugs to you.. well maybe a handshake cuz I know hugs are out of the question for the moment.. ow
LORD am I wordy or what???!!! sorry
It's really, really tough right now I know...but I promise it all gets better AND easier! Hang in there.
Ouch! That hurts! Cabbage sounds a litte dicey, but hey, if it works...
